OK, here is part II of the grass-court quotes article, like we promised! Just to remind you, in part I, we looked at Andy’s anonymity, his household weapons and the infamous ‘Baaa’. Now we turn our attention to acrobatics, and Andy’s more, shall we say, flirtatious side!

After a win over Radek Stepanek at Queen’s in 2005, Andy made a joke about his replication of Stepanek’s antics on court. When asked about his hop and skip in the third set, Andy replied,

“Yeah, well, I didn’t want to miss out on all the fun and the hopping and the skipping and all that stuff. I mean, it looked like a good time, and it was.”

Was he satisfied?

“Yeah, I was fully satisfied with the feeling.”

Andy’s wittiness often comes with a certain amount of blunt honesty when analysing his own game. Did he ponder playing doubles with Ian Flanagan at the Stella Artois Championships?

“(Witness shaking head.) Have you seen me play doubles before?”

The interviewer cautiously replies “no”,

“That’s a good thing.” Andy retaliated!

After suggesting to BBC presenter, Sue Barker, that the best thing about winning Queen’s, was the interview he got with her after the match, it became known to Andy fans, that the young American was foot loose and fancy free! From proposing a date to a reporter, to speculating on Sharapova’s dress length, Andy is all smiles with the ladies. Here are some examples,

Q. You were seen as a new sex symbol of the tennis circuit. Do you enjoy this status?
ANDY RODDICK: Do you want to go to dinner later?
Q. So—?
ANDY RODDICK: Sorry, I didn’t hear the question. I was just looking at you, Jesus.

After his 2004 Wimbledon final loss, was Andy disappointed not to dance with Sharapova at the Champions Ball?

“I just want to know how long her skirt’s going to be. Is it going to be short? Is it going to be long? Disappointed I won’t get to see that. I might just sneak in and crash the party. I’ll bring the beer, man. Let’s go.”

Lastly we’ll leave you with Andy’s closing sentiments on why his press conferences have been described as ‘must see TV’,

“I think I just give honest answers. You know, I’m looking at—I don’t know. I just come in and whatever pops into my head, I say. I’m not really thinking about what programmed answers I’m going to come in with. I get to laugh at some of your questions, too, you know. I get your (indiscernible) and all the fun stuff. ”
